Principal Systems Engineer - Essex

Our client manufactures and supplies safety critical shutdown and control systems for the automation industry.

Their continuing success and promotion within the company means that they are looking to recruit a Principal Systems Engineer.

Overall Purpose of Job:
To be responsible for the design and configuration of control systems in accordance with an agreed specification and standards as per the customer's purchase order and contract requirements in accordance with the Company's standards and procedures.

Main Duties:
To be the technical authority for designated projects and conducting of design reviews, working in conjunction with Technical Managers.

To process and assist with sales applications enquiries working with the Account Managers and Sales Applications/ Proposals Engineers.

Attend customer bid clarification meetings and participate in site meetings when required.

Attend sales handover meetings to ensure technical compliance with the sales proposal documentation and the client's specification.

To verify the technical aspects of the system design during the design phase thereby ensuring compliance to the customer's specification and all relevant statutory and company standards.

To be responsible for the organisation/generation of all necessary engineering documentation as per the System design requirements including raising of material requisitions and agreement of delivery schedules with the materials function.

To attend meetings post order with the Customer, or his representative, to discuss specific engineering design issues and, where necessary, provide system design expertise.

To be responsible for the generation of all manufacturing data for the project.

Identify and resolve with the Project Manager the project cost/schedule/resource constraints.

Identify changes in requirements from the client, discuss with the Project Manager and assist in the agreed implementation plan and assist with the negotiation of change orders.

Support the project assembly and validation teams in providing solutions to queries raised during the manufacturing process.

Provide leadership and motivation to the engineering team and ensure compliance to RA's standards and procedures.

To attend handover meetings to ensure all aspects of the project are made available to the site representatives.

Generate Safety System control system configuration specifications.

Assist in system troubleshooting, control system set-up, start-up and commissioning where required.

To supervise/participate in the development of the commissioning plans and attendance at customer progress meetings.

Job Requirements:
A proven history and track record with a good understanding of safety and control system requirements, applications and standards, preferably from within the Oil & Gas business sector, but not essential.

Hardware and Software design experience on PLC based control and safety systems and familiar with the IEC 1131 standard.

Experience with OPC and serial Modbus Communications to third party systems and HMIs.

Good IT skills.

Commercial awareness essential.

Qualification to degree level, or equivalent experience.

Experience of working to Functional Safety Management requirements (IEC 61508/IEC61511) preferably with Functional Safety Management qualification.

Good communication skills essential, able to work as part of a team.

Salary & Benefits:
Salary: £45K Per Annum + benefits
