This is a varied mechanical role in support of both New Product introduction (NPI) and existing products with key accountability for:
NPI support
Continuous Improvement
Jigs / fixture design

This will encompass:
Working with design on new product projects to ensure designs are produced in the most cost effective and efficient way (involving organisation of design, specification and procurement of any necessary tooling)
Identification of product design improvements to reduce cost, ease assembly and improve quality and reliability.
Investigate and implement new processes and carry out improvements to existing processes in order to reduce costs and variability and improve process yields.
Provide written specifications, procedures and instructions to assist operational staff to assemble, process and test products effectively and efficiently.
Provide Shop Floor Support resolve problems with processes and product designs.
Create/amend BOMs and Routings using company MRP system.
Raise/action Change Notes as required.
Advise and assist with design of New Products to ensure suitability for manufacture.
Comply with the company’s health and safety policy.
Undertake any other tasks that may be reasonably requested

The ideal candidate will be a HNC / Apprentice trained Mechanical / Production Engineer with a background in a precision mechanical assembly environment ideally also including clean room. Tooling / jig / fixture design. Knowledge of metal joining processes, brazing,TIG / laser welding ideally sought. Continuous improvement / lean manufacturing / six sigma highly advantageous i.e. FMEA, Poke Yoke, DOE etc

Likely to suit individuals with a background as (but not limited to) Mechanical Production Engineering, Tooling Engineer or similar

CAD Proficent - Solidworks ideal
Knowledge of sensing systems & instrumentation
Knowledge & experience of welding, including CRA's

Mechanical Packaging Engineer :

World class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Packaging Engineer.

The contract is initially for 6 months (ongoing after). The department are offering hour rates of £28 - £30 per hour.

You do not need to hold current SC Security Clearance; however you must be eligible to be cleared to this level.

Mechanical Packaging Engineer Job Description:

Responsibilities:

• Definition of bespoke Mechanical Packaging designs housing CCAs.
• Interpretation of Sub-System Specifications and generation of 3D models/designs on CAD (ProEngineer).
• Generation of CCA Interface Definitions including electronic data exchange to ECAD tools.
• Carry out investigations into a full range of Mechanical Packaging problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
• Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
• Support to functional & environmental trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/ purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
• Planning own day-to-day activities.

Skills / Experience:

• Knowledge of the following: Manufacturing processes, EMC, Gaskets, connectors to BS & military specifications, tolerance studies, environmental test, thermal management, materials, CCA/Flexi manufacture, electronic components.
