Principal Test Solutions Engineer
Job Description
The main purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise within the test engineering function in the field of RF/microwave test solutions. It also encompasses the design, development, commissioning and support of new and existing test solutions within the Praetorian project, across a number of platform types.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Providing domain expertise and acting as the responsible authority for RF and microwave test solutions across a number of projects and test platform types.
- Development and commissioning of automated test solutions for RF/microwave or mixed technology products.
- Providing support for and completing updates to existing test solutions at a number of manufacturing sites within the UK.
- Completing design for test analyses as part of the main product design review process.
- Liaison with the design teams to engineer and review test methods and solutions.
- Providing technical guidance for the use of National Instruments software tools.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge:
- Qualification to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering related discipline
Skills:
- Experience in the design of automated test systems for RF and/or microwave products is essential; additional experience in the design of automated test systems for digital and/or analogue products is desirable.
- The ability to integrate and solve technical problems in a combined hardware and software domain is essential.
- Skilled in using National Instrument LabWindows CVI, LabView and TestStand.
- Skilled in developing software for instrument control.
- National Instruments accreditation for LabView and/or TestStand is desirable (at architect level if possible).
- Good communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.
Knowledge and Experience:
- In-depth knowledge and practical experience of test solution design, including hardware and software development.
- Proven ability to take test solutions from concept stage, through design, certification and into service.
- In-depth knowledge of current test development strategies and emerging technologies.
- Knowledge of engineering development lifecycle, associated processes and documentation.
- Knowledge of software/hardware configuration management tools is desirable.
