Working in the Systems Infrastructure and Capacity Team, you will be responsible for the central Oracle and SQL Server database estate, and you will lead on the strategic migration from Oracle to SQL Server. You will have the proven ability to design and implement highly available databases using virtual Servers and central storage appliances; the University uses VMware vSphere and NetApp filers. The proven ability to use appropriate tools to back-up and recovery databases is essential, as is the ability to monitor databases and effectively manage performance, capacity and availability. The successful candidate will be technically excellent, thorough, clear thinking, methodical, well-organised, highly professional, calm under pressure, considerate, supportive and responsive to the needs of the user community. You will be positively engaged in the work of the department and the business, committed to providing first class database infrastructure. The role holder will provide specialist support to assist in the provision, development, integration and maintenance of a highly complex portfolio of IT database systems and infrastructure components that support the achievement of the ICT Strategic Plan, working as part of a team responsible for providing the core systems technology that will enable staff and students to work efficiently and effectively. The post also has project management duties associated with database provision, supporting the management and delivery of departmental database projects and project work packages, working with stakeholders, external partners and service providers and liaising with internal project team members as required. This position requires an individual who is a strong team player and has the ability to complete tickets quickly within published service levels (SLAs). It is critical the individual has excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate technical terms to non-technical personnel. The candidate must have the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively in a large HE environment.
