Site Support Engineer / Field Service Engineer (Telecoms) £20K
Our client is the world’s leading provider of point of care systems in healthcare, including media, information, clinical support software and infrastructure services.
Position: Site Support Engineer
Location: Colchester
Hours: 40 Hours per week
Salary: £20,000 per annum
ROLE:
The Site Support Engineer / Field Service Engineer is responsible for working as part of a team to provide 1st level technical and operational support to sites within a specific geographical area. (Cover in other areas may be required from time to time)
The role focuses upon maintaining both bedside and back office operational equipment including ownership of customer issues raised at the bedside. Maximising the uptime of Bedside Units and therefore the availability of the system to customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Maximising the uptime (technical availability to customers) of the Bedside Unit.
b) Setting and delivery of daily uptime site targets and utilising in-house tools such as Bed Doctor etc.
c) Maximising the on-site repair of faulty bedside units and where necessary installing replacement parts.
d) Management and effective upkeep of bedside unit test equipment for fault detection.
e) Resolve customer generated problems and queries.
f) Clean & prepare all faulty equipment for return to the Repair Centre.
g) Operate site-based fault logging and reporting systems such as PET & Fault Logger.
h) Management of escalated faults to ensure fixes are completed in a timely manner, and that down-time is minimal.
i) Effective management and handling of any customer complaints, including escalation where applicable.
j) Management & maintenance of all equipment and ward consumable stock levels to ensure the correct levels of stock are in place. The management of payphones & vending machines (as applicable).
k) Adherence to legislative requirements, policies & procedures including Health and Safety policies and procedures.
l) Ensuring high levels of attendance and good time keeping at all times.
m) Provide cover and assistance for other Area Support Engineers as required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Previous commercial experience of bedside unit replacement, or experience in a similar field or support role.
b) Commercial experience of working in a customer service environment, including complaints escalation and resolution.
c) Ability to gain quick familiarity with their vending machines and gain the ability to repair and maintain payphone systems and hardware.
d) Previous experience of working with the majority of the following in a commercial environment is essential:
- RF data networks and TV distribution systems.
- CAT 5 and Fibre data networks.
- Server and PC hardware/software in a Microsoft/Linux networking environment.
- Analogue and digital/VOIP telephone networks.
- TCP/IP network fundamentals including working with Windows software configurations.
e) Able to effectively prioritise workload and take an organised approach to work in order to meet targets and times deadlines.
f) Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues to technical & non-technical people alike.
g) Frequent travel is an essential requirement of the role, and a full UK driving license is therefore required.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) MCSE/MCDST (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer/Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician).
b) 3rd/4th Edition Electrical.
c) Relevant Audio Visual Industry qualification, cabling/infrastructure qualification, Telecommunications qualification, IT based qualification, and Relevant HNC/HND/NVQ.

JOB TITLE: Powertrain Control Systems End of Line Engineer
PCSE GROUP: Powerpack Integration and Vehicle Applications
An engineer to support control system applications launches as required by PCSE engineering.
Experience
Knowledge of automotive End of Line tests and test procedures. Knowledge of Ford tools and engine control systems required. The candidate should also be proficient with the use of Supplier ECM calibration and diagnostic tools. A thorough knowledge of CAN communication protocols is essential.
Objectives.
- Working closely with Vehicle Operation and EESE EoL team to produce PT EoL diagnostic requirements.
- Working with the EOL team develop a complete set of PT EoL tests that are aligned with Vehicle / EESE / Manufacturing requirements with documentation that captures all Corporate, cross plant best practises.
- Deliver all work products consistent with program timing and PCSE Project Delivery Plans.
- Demonstrate through validation testing that EoL diagnostic features meet all specified requirements.
- Collate EoL diagnostic functional requirements from all sources to create and maintain diagnostic EoL tests specifications to ensure optimum manufacturing /assembly robustness.
- Develop and track EoL diagnostic Test verification plan and make available to EESE Vehicle Diagnostic team and VO.
- Conduct Line trials of EoL tests from CP builds through to J1.
- Support EESE Vehicle EoL drive cycle Tests & Verification, and Drive Cycle Optimisation.
- Conduct EoL tests calibration to determine optimum 'pass/fail' limits.
- Provide input to, and maintain the data in the PT & Vehicle EoL diagnostic Sign-Off Summary reports for all programs.
- Initiate e-Trackers, SIR's, or DCR's to address issues found during validation testing.
- Develop and/or provide input to EESE/VO on Vehicle Specific Configuration System (VSCS) for each PCM
- Working with EESE Vehicle Diagnostic team & VO provide input to the individual PCM diagnostic delivery plans which supports GPDS and the robust validation of the EoL diagnostics.
- Support DSPE/FCSD in issue resolution where vehicle may be released with known diagnostic issues.
- Work with VO & EESE to identify all requirements relating to Central Car Configuration and EoL programming/Flash where applicable.
- Provide on-site manufacturing plant launch support to resolve EoL issues relating to Powertrain Controls.
- Follow EESE EoL diagnostics change requests process by raising/tracking e-tracker transmittals where needed.
- Support Launch team Bubble team meetings as required
- Global travel to support product launches will be required

My Client is an internationally known manufacturer of single board computer products, for the VPX, VME, CompactPCI, AMC and other bus architectures. Our products are designed and developed totally in-house, and use leading-edge microprocessors and peripheral components.
We sell into many different markets around the world, but in particular we have a number of high-performance processor and other boards used in aerospace, defence and telecommunications applications, among others. Further products provide solutions for a variety of other data processing and industrial I/O requirements.
Continuing expansion of our product range means that the company requires an additional Software Engineer.
The Job:
Our engineers are involved in many different activities, and in particular the following:-
· Developing and maintaining our PC BIOS and diagnostics firmware
· Design and development of system and device driver software for many standard operating systems
· Porting and testing of the operating systems on new hardware platforms
· Working with our hardware designers during design to specify the product, and again particularly during the prototyping stage to get the product working This often involves the development of new special-purpose test software
· Backing up our technical support engineers when problems arise in the field or in our in-house production test area
Working in a small company environment, projects are usually small and of short duration, and in most cases the bulk of the work is done by one individual. The hardware and software platforms vary, but most of the devices used are complex and a good appreciation of the hardware is a pre-requisite for this role.
Qualifications:
Engineering graduate, with very good experience in at least the first three of the areas below.
· C or C++ programming, primarily for the Intel processor family
· Windows, Linux, VxWorks or QNX device drivers or system (kernel level) software
· Embedded real-time software development
· Programming hardware devices at register level
· Diagnostics, bootloader or PC BIOS development
· Familiarity with VPX, VME, CompactPCI or MicroTCA/ATCA Systems
The ability to communicate effectively with others within the company at an engineering level is an important additional attribute.

Thermal Engineer
You will work closely with the electronics and board layout engineers at all the different stages of board development, for both rugged and more benign environments. The design team operates in a small company environment which means that most designs are completed by an individual engineer. As a result, each engineer rapidly becomes involved with all aspects of the product design and development. Short design timescales are an important part of the development strategy, which also results in our engineers being involved in many different product designs quite quickly.
Essential Skills / Experience:
· Established Mechanical Design Engineer.
· Educated to graduate level and with experience of designing thermal solutions for electronic products in a range of operating environments.
· An ability to design cost-effective and compact solutions which have excellent thermal transfer characteristics.
· Independent and a self-starter, able to plan and carry out your work with little supervision and with the ability to deliver effective results in short timescales.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
· Experience with board-level designs dissipating 60W or more, and using BGA packaged electronic components.
· Familiarity with VPX, VME or CompactPCI bus systems would be beneficial.
· Experience of the thermal and mechanical issues involved in designing for harsh environments such as airborne or ground vehicle mounted equipment would be a significant advantage.
· Familiarity with SolidWorks for mechanical design, and CF Design for thermal analysis.
