Expanding Electronics Company now needs a Mechanical (Thermal ) Design Engineer Essex
Thermal Engineer
You will work closely with the electronics and board layout engineers at all the different stages of board development, for both rugged and more benign environments. The design team operates in a small company environment which means that most designs are completed by an individual engineer. As a result, each engineer rapidly becomes involved with all aspects of the product design and development. Short design timescales are an important part of the development strategy, which also results in our engineers being involved in many different product designs quite quickly.
Essential Skills / Experience:
· Established Mechanical Design Engineer.
· Educated to graduate level and with experience of designing thermal solutions for electronic products in a range of operating environments.
· An ability to design cost-effective and compact solutions which have excellent thermal transfer characteristics.
· Independent and a self-starter, able to plan and carry out your work with little supervision and with the ability to deliver effective results in short timescales.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
· Experience with board-level designs dissipating 60W or more, and using BGA packaged electronic components.
· Familiarity with VPX, VME or CompactPCI bus systems would be beneficial.
· Experience of the thermal and mechanical issues involved in designing for harsh environments such as airborne or ground vehicle mounted equipment would be a significant advantage.
· Familiarity with SolidWorks for mechanical design, and CF Design for thermal analysis.
Benefits:
· Very competitive salary.
· Optional stakeholder pension scheme (with a generous company contribution).
· Life assurance.
· Private health insurance.
· Relocation allowance.

Expanding Electronics Company now needs a Software Engineer Essex
Software Engineer
My Client is an internationally known manufacturer of single board computer products, for the VPX, VME, CompactPCI, AMC and other bus architectures. Our products are designed and developed totally in-house, and use leading-edge microprocessors and peripheral components.
We sell into many different markets around the world, but in particular we have a number of high-performance processor and other boards used in aerospace, defence and telecommunications applications, among others. Further products provide solutions for a variety of other data processing and industrial I/O requirements.
Continuing expansion of our product range means that the company requires an additional Software Engineer.
The Job:
Our engineers are involved in many different activities, and in particular the following:-
· Developing and maintaining our PC BIOS and diagnostics firmware
· Design and development of system and device driver software for many standard operating systems
· Porting and testing of the operating systems on new hardware platforms
· Working with our hardware designers during design to specify the product, and again particularly during the prototyping stage to get the product working This often involves the development of new special-purpose test software
· Backing up our technical support engineers when problems arise in the field or in our in-house production test area
Working in a small company environment, projects are usually small and of short duration, and in most cases the bulk of the work is done by one individual. The hardware and software platforms vary, but most of the devices used are complex and a good appreciation of the hardware is a pre-requisite for this role.
Qualifications:
Engineering graduate, with very good experience in at least the first three of the areas below.
· C or C++ programming, primarily for the Intel processor family
· Windows, Linux, VxWorks or QNX device drivers or system (kernel level) software
· Embedded real-time software development
· Programming hardware devices at register level
· Diagnostics, bootloader or PC BIOS development
· Familiarity with VPX, VME, CompactPCI or MicroTCA/ATCA Systems
The ability to communicate effectively with others within the company at an engineering level is an important additional attribute.
Benefits:
Very competitive salary package, with generous relocation allowance where appropriate. Company-supported private pension scheme. Non-contributory private health insurance scheme.
