Software Test Engineer, Bristol
We are searching for a Software Test Engineer to test and debug software for wireless chips. This may be either embedded software running on the on-chip processors or associated software running on a host processor.
The candidate will take ownership of the software testing of a major aspect of a project and will be responsible for delivering the software test results on a timescale agreed with the group leader. Mentoring will provided from more experienced engineers. Tasks will be defined and the engineer is expected to work with moderate supervision.
In this role the candidate is expected to take significant ownership for WLAN PHY and Radio Control software including system level feature integration, debug and test. The candidate is expected to develop test strategies and test plans, troubleshoot/analyze problems and optimize system performance. The role may require understanding of the software/firmware design and implementation and, if needed, make contributions on development and debug.
The role will include but not be limited to:
Task definition and work breakdown including time estimation
Development of software test systems of major scale and complexity to agreed timescales;
Investigates software defects and suggest root cause to development engineers;
Delivery of high quality software test results in line with the department’s processes;
Creation of relevant documentation following the department’s processes;
Contribute towards the continuous development of the department’s processes;
We are searching for a Software Test Engineer with the following profile:
Good and relevant academic background
Excellent proven experience of at least one scripting/programming language
Understanding of software test methodologies
Good understanding of Signal Processing and Communications
Understanding of PHY and DSP Firmware
Experience of testing commercial software
Good understanding of software test debug techniques
Air interface performance analysis, characterization, and optimization
Handling LAB Equipment and Real time Debug and Verification
Good communicator
Some experience of software development will be a plus
Capability to identify and debug interoperability issues with products of different vendors will be a plus
Good understanding of or interest in wireless communication protocols

I am currently recruiting for world-class Modem Software Engineering team in Cambridge and we are looking for a Validation Engineer to join our core software validation group. As a Core Software Validation Engineer, you will join a team of test engineers whose role is the validation of complete modem platforms, from 2G/3G/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA+ to LTE.
Key responsibilities of a Core Software Verification Engineer are;
-The verification, testing and debugging of the features, (including new features), developed for the protocol stack
-Execution of test cases to verify the protocol stack against various test platforms
-Perform initial analysis of failures and raise defect reports with needed information to development teams
-Perform regular (daily/weekly) non-regression protocol and RF GCF/PTCRB and operator testing (2G/3G/LTE) on specific SW branches
-Report testing and debug status to management in a clear and logical fashion
-Maintenance of testing equipment (includes HW/SW upgrades, and maintenance of test plans according to wireless products capabilities)

-Working knowledge of 3GPP protocol stacks, (GSM/GPRS, WCDMA, LTE)

To lead the UK EMC laboratory team, applying specialist technical knowledge on EMC facilities, testing methods and processes overall responsible for EMC test group.
Skills & Knowledge :
• Educated to degree or equivalent level
• Technical authority in EMC test engineering.
• Knowledge of EMC & RF test techniques and systems.

• To act as UKAS technical manager for the test laboratory
• To implement safe systems of work, undertaking any necessary risk assessments pertinent to the EMC laboratory, ensuring the safety of the laboratory staff including customers - supporting (or on behalf) of the Head of EMC UK
• To influence project heads / chief engineers to invest in changes / developments that have potential technical & financial implications.
• Develop EMC Test strategy to keep pace with emerging technologies and threats.
• Approval obtained for detailed EMC test requirements across Projects.
• Approval obtained for detailed EMC, Control plans with justification in support of project technical requirements.
• Composition and/or review of EMC test documents and reports - produced on time and to good quality standards.
• Professional training, establish group training needs and provide training through the MSU.
• Robust facilities plan matched to future ISBP requirements
• Developing world class EMC service facilities & infrastructure.
