Projects range from typical Control & Automation projects through to very unique challenges presented by more diverse clients.

The Systems Capability Team within the Communications division provides a broad range of industrial information systems skills & knowledge to bear on client problems. As such you will be working with a broad base of staff such as project managers and systems, application & software engineers, both internally and externally.

The primary location for this role is Bristol, however we may be able to consider a Surrey location for the right candidate.


Responsibilities:
* Leading and developing the Communications Industrial Systems Capability to ensure it is capable of meeting growing client needs.
* Secure work, through existing relationships, or working with others to support bidding activity into new business opportunities.
* Cultivation of strong client relationships through technical excellence and strong capability leadership.
* Supporting project managers in design & implementation of technical solutions
* Assuring technical delivery and ensuring quality throughout the project lifecycle.
* Mentor and develop staff
* Enhance and develop the company reputation in Industrial Systems
* Ensure successful delivery of projects, within multidisciplinary programmes & projects.
* Selection and adoption of appropriate standards

Requirements:

Essential:
* Previous experience of successful design & delivery of control & automation systems across multiple sectors, project values >£250k.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at various levels within an organisation, build strong client relationships, lead client conversations and engage on a technical level.
* Commercially aware, experienced in developing costed technical proposals, identifying key risks
* Sound industrial controls knowledge, ideally from instrument through to ERP connectivity.
* Experience of technical document production throughout the project lifecycle
* Occasional temporary requirements to work away from home, both in the UK and overseas as project/client requirements dictate.
* Capable of working as a technical consultant on client sites to define project scope
* Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership

Desirable:
* Knowledge of mechanical & electro-mechanical systems in an industrial setting
* Degree qualified with an electrical/electronic/computing/controls bias.
* An understanding of electrical standards

* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Pragmatic, approachable, problem solver
* Comfortable dealing with ambiguity in a technical setting
* Ability to be flexible and to be able to multi-task and prioritise when necessary.

Skills & Requirements
• You should be intimately familiar with JavaScript, and love it for all its faults.
• You will know how to craft beautiful interfaces from static mockups using HTML and CSS. You will also be familiar with the ever-hyped HTML5 and CSS3.
• You will have heard of our current technology stack: Backbone.js and Require.js to structure our JavaScript, Handlebars.js to generate HTML templates and SASS to create stylesheets.
• You will be plugged in to the most recent developments in the web community, including familiarity with Responsive Web Design and front-end MV* design patterns. You might even have played around with some of the cool new technologies such as Node or CoffeeScript.
• You have heard of Phonegap and perhaps have familiarity with native iOS / Android / Blackberry / Windows Phone code.
• You have heard of RESTful APIs, and you have met JSON. Bonus points if you have ever consumed or designed a RESTful API.
• You should know how to use a version control system such as SVN or Git.
• You will have a very high standard of written and spoken English, and be able to communicate your ideas in a thoughtful and respectful manner to other team members.
