PHP Developer – Latest Technology for Cloud-Based Software – Bristol, South West

Salary: £30,000 - £38,000 plus full benefits package
Location: Bristol, South West (Gloucestershire and Somerset)

THE COMPANY AND SITUATION:

A very exciting and one of the fastest-growing providers of an innovative, unique, cloud-based e-commerce software offering are seeking a sociable PHP Developer to join a very friendly multi-skilled Agile development team!

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The following experience and attributes are essential for this role:

• A minimum of 3 years of software development experience in PHP version 5
• A relevant degree class 2:1 or above (but if you’re really good at PHP, we’ll let you off with a 2:2!)
• Some exposure to Java
• Experience of a unit testing framework
• RDBMS experience (MySql is favourite here, but any RBD is fine)
• SQL experience
• Linux experience

Please note the above criteria are essential – you require all of the above points to be eligible for this role.

Desirable, but not essential is experience in any of the following:

• Integrating with RESTful web services layer
• Agile (Scrum or XP)
• Modern web technologies and frameworks such as Zend 1, Spring or jQuery
• Distributed/grid data layers such as Hazelcast
• Queuing technologies such as ActiveMQ
• Integrating with third-parties over API (for example eBay, Amazon, Magento, Shopify)

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This is one of fastest-growing cloud software companies in Europe, therefore the career potential here is huge, with a culture of promoting from within.

For technical staff, the attraction here is the technology they use in-house. Because they are a relatively new and growing company, they are getting to use a lot of the newest and latest software before other companies generally do. Some examples of this are Zend; connectors for eBay, Amazon, Magento and Shopify; Hazelcast with ActiveMQ and RESTful web services. Consequently, there is also still scope to change and mould the way the technology team grows: They are not yet “set in their ways” as can be the case in other long-established companies.

Additionally, this is an opportunity to work with a great bunch of sociable people – this is not your typical “tech” company! It’s important that you’re sociable because they want people who will join in with their regular social activities, at least once a week and often more!
As their VP of sales put it: “We have the San Francisco-style, fast-paced, tech start-up culture in sunny Bristol!”

c£25,000 - £30,000 dependent on experience

The Web Developer Opportunity:

We are looking for a talented web developer to join our dynamic and growing team located just outside Bristol, UK.

Our website is a key element of our business – our shop front and the link to many of our back-end systems and processes. We are continually improving our systems so that they are more robust and scalable, as well as adding exciting new features, ideas and improvements. The website provides a vital link to both users and our applications used across desktop & mobile devices.

The Web Developer Role:

Working with our systems architect, you would be responsible for implementing a wide variety of changes across a number of systems using various web technologies.

Projects will include integrating with new payment systems, large amounts of rebuild on the website, implementing new design ideas, improving performance & scalability.

With solid commercial experience, you will be at an advanced level with PHP and MySQL. Ideally you will also know and be good at picking up other languages and frameworks; we do not want to be restricted to using only PHP in the long term.

We have the freedom to build new functionality and systems in whatever technology we think is most suitable (and would welcome your opinions on this) - currently most of our web-based systems are written in PHP but our most recent project has been written using Node.js and Express.

The work will be a mix of frontend and backend development so you will also need to be able to write good HTML and CSS from a set of Photoshop designs, and code JavaScript.

Required Experience for our Web Developer:

> Object-oriented PHP
> SQL (ideally MySQL)
> JavaScript
> HTML, CSS

Ideal:

> Experience of PHP frameworks (e.g. Zend, Symfony)
> Payment systems integration
> Node.js
> jQuery
> SVN/Git
> HTML5
> AWS (EC2, S3)
> Other languages/frameworks (rails, django, etc.)
> Responsive design

You may have worked in the following capacities:
PHP Web Applications Developer, PHP Software Engineer, PHP Developer, PHP Web Developer, PHP Software Developer, LAMP Developer.

Application Statement: By applying for this role you give express consent for us to process & submit (subject to required skills) your application to our client in conjunction with this vacancy only.

The Web Developer is brought to you by RecruitmentRevolution.com – The UK's first online recruitment agency created 2005.
